Cavitating Flow in the Volute of a Centrifugal Pump at Flow Rates Above the Optimal Condition

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cavitation is regarded as a considerable factor causing performance deterioration of pumps under off-design conditions, especially at overload conditions. To investigate the unsteady cavitation evolution around tongue pump volute, and its influence on flow field within passages impeller, numerical calculations several hydraulic tests were performed typical centrifugal with shrouded impeller. Emphasis was laid blade-loading distribution rates above optimal value. Results indicated that vapor likely to first emerge from volute rather than leading edge blades In contrast designed condition, in each passage obviously different. The rate reaches maximum just past location tongue, while minimum value projected appear upstream. squeezes area outlet corresponding thereby huge growth impeller outlet.

Cavitating Vortex Flow Generated by a Stationary Volute Casing and a Rotating Centrifugal Impeller

Three devices for treating contaminated water using a cavitating vortex have been developed and tested. The first device uses stationary twin volute casings to generate cavitating vortices. Observation of the collisions among the opposing counter-rotating vortices revealed that their end portions whirl, that the vortices never collide head-on, and that they eventually separate into several smal...

Experimental Study and Three-Dimensional Numerical Flow Simulation in a Centrifugal Pump when Handling Viscous Fluids

In this paper the centrifugal pump performances are tested when handling water and viscous oils as Newtonian fluids. Also, this paper shows a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional fluid flow inside a centrifugal pump. For these numerical simulations the SIMPLEC algorithm is used for solving governing equations of incompressible viscous/turbulent flows through the pump. The k-ε turbulenc...

Improving the Cooling Process of Heavy-Duty Engines through Three Dimensional Simulation of Fluid Flow in its Coolant Centrifugal Pump

This paper investigates 3D simulation of fluid flow in a centrifugal pump from the Detroit Diesel company to extract possible engine cooling trends.  The velocity and pressure profile of water, the coolant, is analyzed and the characteristic curves of the pump are derived. This provides a useful evaluation of the pump performance at all working conditions. For this aim, a computational fluid dy...
